This project is made for the purpose of entertainment, your fate doesn’t rely on the answer this robot gives you. Kaya huwag magpa-uto, this is simply for fun!
You simply ask a question and place your hands in front of the marked area, wherein an IR Sensor is located. After detecting movement from your hand, either the green, red, or both cardboard pieces will raise. Red signifies no, green signifies yes, and both colors signify maybe. As the cardboard pieces signal your fate, the buzzer and LEDs will be prompted to turn on as well.
Materials
Recycled Cardboard, Colored Paper, Glue Gun, Tape, Jumper Wires, 2 Servo Motors, 2 LEDs, IR Sensor, Piezo Buzzer, and Microcontroller.
Inspiration
Our group’s main motivation was to generate interactions whenever people came to check on our product. We wanted to witness the smiles on the faces of the people who wish to test their fate through this robot. And that’s what mostly inspired us, to create something enjoyable and interactive. So that through this product, we get to allow people to make memorable memories during the maker faire, moreover it isn't too much of a handful to recreate, and that too inspired us to furthermore inspire other people to recreate our product for their own entertainment as well.
Reflection
Coming up with concepts wasn’t too hard, but coming up with an idea that’s creative and entertaining was what challenged our group. This project exhibits our collective inclination to have fun and to spark joy for others, thus why we made sure to make this project interactive and enjoyable for us and more importantly, our audience. With this, we chose this product with a lesson at hand. It isn’t only for the purpose of entertainment because this fortune-telling robot reminds us how we shouldn’t rely on mere guesses and strong urges to decide our future and our choices.
As this robot is only coded accordingly to display the yes, no, or maybe results, furthermore, reminds us how we shouldn’t always depend on fortune-telling mediums. Our fate is ours to decide, what we do now, decides the future destined for us. Overall, this experience was indeed enjoyable for our group and we look forward to the laughter it may bring to the people who wish to give this project a try. Once again, remember, huwag magpa-uto, this is simply for fun!
About the Makers
Micahella Ceballos, a girl who embodies the tagalog phrase “kikay,” someone who goes with the tide of trends in the media, someone who likes to think of the bigger picture, a lady of ambition, a future doctor, or maybe a philanthropist, or perhaps a diplomat, (I honestly don’t know yet), a lover of travel, posing for the camera, cafes, solo dates, quiet moments, brunch, and the last person you’d have in mind when it comes to tinkering and inventing.
Hi, I’m Micah, and for this project I was grouped with best friends Zoey Blanco and Dawn Rudinas, the last persons you’d think about as well when you hear the word robotics. As opposed to the words leadership and dancing, then they’re the first ones you’d have in mind. But during this project, our interests were put to the test as we almost had nothing in common.
After weeks of contemplation, recollecting ourselves, and digging into the depths of our personalities, we discovered the one thing we had in common. We all love great company, having fun, and making memories with friends. Which highly justifies the project we decided to create. Along with our undying motivation, our grit to pursue despite not being experts in this field, and our desire to radiate joy, we created a product that translates how we like to have fun.
