Anoisua's Rain Doll

Anoisua's Rain Doll

  • Maker/s: Anya Sacal, Joshua Lim, Messiah Lois Abbu

Similarly, our group’s concept includes a rain doll that drives away negative thoughts and feelings, not just through the manifestation of the doll, but by offering an affirmation to incite positivity. Also, we called it, “Anoisua” because it comprises our names which are Anya, Lois, and Joshua. We believe that fusing our names would establish good energy, and the idea of teamwork and togetherness. In this way, it could also provide a great influence towards people who think that they are alone and whose hope of theirs is gradually extinguishing in the matter of facing any sort of relationships. Furthermore, Anoisua’s rain doll is used for entertainment and motivational purposes.

Materials

To make our project, we will start off with the base. This will need as much recycled materials that includes a small box, paints specifically blue green, and orange; at least two unused CDs or DVDs, cotton balls, and one barbeque stick. It is optional to put an unused origami design to extend creativity. For the cover that’ll be placed at the back part of the base to refrain the display of wires and other Arduino constituents, we will need a shoe box and a yellow paint.

Moreover, for the rain doll, we will need one barbeque stick, half a cut of the aluminum foil, ribbon, and a thin hanky or cloth. Make sure to secure too the basic materials which are the scissors, glue gun with glue sticks, and paint brush. Aside from all the things said, the Arduino materials that we’ll be needing are two servo motors, an ultrasonic sensor, four LEDs, four 220-ohm resistors, microcontroller, breadboard, and multiple kinds of jumper wires.

Inspiration

The inspiration struck me, Joshua Lim, when brainstorming for what can make our robotics application more interesting. We had ideas like Eve from Wall-E or Casper the friendly ghost, but when Casper was mentioned, it reminded me of Japanese rain dolls that I've seen and took an interest in even before the exit product. I proposed and explained the idea to my group mates and they agreed that it would not only be a cute concept but a meaningful one as well especially since we had the concept of our robotics application giving affirmations. Since the rain doll was meant to deter bad weather, we saw it that our rain doll was deterring bad emotions and negative thoughts.

About the Makers

I, Joshua Lim, am a friendly person who finds joy in keeping up with current trends. I enjoy K-pop, reading fanfic, and exploring different styles in terms of the way I dress. I play the violin and am part of the Xavier Philharmonic Orchestra, I started learning to golf again, and I also have started picking up different interest. I've started learning how to draw, how to cook, and learning different languages. I also enjoy academics, my favorite subjects being math and science, and I used to have a reputation of a consistent honor student, but before I transferred schools hehe.

I, Anya Sacal, ardently love to read books, fiction, specifically. I am also keen in writing any forms of literature, with poetry and novels being my favorite. I am a fan of travelling across different countries, singing, and playing the ukelele. In addition, I appreciate on what’s beyond that meets the eye with art, and engulfing the solace I find in myself and God.

I, Messiah Lois Abbu, am fond of reading thriller and fantasy books. I love listening to music of different genres, minding my own peace, and from time to time, having a blast with my friends.
