Materials
For this version of the music box, you will need to use 1 ½ Illustration Board, a breadboard, a microcontroller, 2 LEDs, 1 Piezo Buzzer, 2 Servo Motor, 1 Ultrasonic Sensor, and MTF and MTM Jumper Wires as well as Adhesives and cutting tools such as scissors and cutters.
Inspiration
I was inspired to make this application from a scene from one of my favorite movies called The Gifted in which one of the main characters created an elaborate domino build that starts by the simple opening of a door. From this, I had the thought that what if opening was the result instead of the cause? Another inspiration would be my love for video game themes, particularly from the Pokemon, Tetris, and Fallout series of games which gave me the inspiration to use Tetris as a theme for my (product).
Reflection
I felt quite challenged while making the product as this was already my second attempt in making the Music Box with Prototype A looking very unpresentable and the IR Sensor proving to be too much for me to use as it was prone to misreading distance and being unable to recognize glass. The experience was eye-opening as it showed me how much effort is needed in order to build even the simplest product and how many things can go wrong in the process. It does make me realize how important machines are in our daily lives and the effort needed to make even a simple flashlight or a speaker being so much that it can overwhelm you for some time just trying to remove the flaws in the design.
About the Maker
I am Thrive or at least that's my webhandle.
I typically under many names that contain Thrive or thrive in the name but my real name is Thomas Valdez.
I am interested in gaming, the Sciences, robotics, and animals.
I am interested in robotics mainly for its potential use in Chemistry to allow for safer experiments without the risk of endangering the lives of scientists via remote experimentations. I have used robotics to make and various products such as music boxes, a water level detector, and a digital clock.
I am focused on my future and do my best to expand my portfolio as well as expand my knowledge on STEM topics to make my Senior High experience more pleasant and redefine the role of machinery in the Sciences.
